EVEN when the election was only a week away, major parties were still trying to buy votes by announcing major spending on projects in vulnerable seats, for example the announceme­nt on May 14 of $200m for the Barwon Heads Rd by the Liberal Party.

Does the public really base their vote on which party promises to spend the most in their region?

This has no relevance on how I vote. I look at the overall policy directions each party has for the future of Australia, and their moral and ethical standards. Priscilla Pescott, Belmont
