Double delight: Super Saturday at Hume Reserve

-

HUME Reserve will host a massive feast of football this Saturday, with co-tenants Corio SC and Galaxy United to take part in an action-packed doubleheader.

Corio’s Men’s State League 1 side will entertain Sydenham Park in the earlier curtain raiser, before the women take centre stage later in the evening when Galaxy United hosts the highflying Preston Lions in the big VPLW clash.

Corio SC president Mario Gregorio said he was looking forward to his club hosting a big day of local football.

“We are pretty excited to have the double-header this Saturday at Hume Reserve involving Corio SC and Galaxy United FC,” he said.

“Both clubs will be playing against two strong clubs of Macedonian background, which is sure to attract a bumper crowd.”

Currently sitting in second last spot on the State 1 standings, the Eagles missed a guilt-edged opportunity to escape the relegation zone after they could only manage a 1-1 draw against bottom side FC Strathmore.

However, the signs in recent weeks have been promising under the guidance of new coach Bobby Stojcevski.

“We at Corio know that this week will be a tough game against the high-flying Sydenham, but our last two results under Bobby prove we can match it with any of the other teams in State 1,” Gregorio said.

“We are confident of a good result on Saturday. That is if can we maintain our intensity and structure.”

Corio’s game against Sydenham Park will kick off at the earlier time of 2.15pm, while the Galaxy’s clash against Preston gets under way at 5.15pm under the lights at Hume Reserve.
