Anglesea eyes crunch clash for finals hopes

- OLLIE NASH

ANGLESEA co-coach Jordan Keras admits this weekend’s clash with Newcomb is his side’s “most important game” this season, as its finals hopes hang in the balance.

Both teams come in with a 2-5 record to leave them two games outside the BFL top five, with Keras (pictured) saying the Roos were desperate for the four points at home.

“We’re going to set ourselves for a pretty good battle this weekend and we think this is by far the most important game for our season,” he said.

“Not going to shy away from that, if we want to play fiIn nals footy at the end of the year, we need to win this week.

“We thought we took some real inroads against Drysdale on the weekend, probably the first time this year we played the way we’ve been trying to.”

Newcomb coach Jye Walker said his group has played well in patches this season and was also looking to improve.

“I think at the moment it’s probably been lack of movement and turnovers, they’re the two things that are probably getting us,” he said.

“There’s no reason that we can’t (improve those things), I believe in all of our guys.”

Anglesea will be without Liam Crukschank for Saturday’s clash due to Covid isolation, while Walker (hamstring) will miss for Newcomb, with Bray Cullinan (work) and ruck Bailey Glascott (knee) also out.
