Claim man punched officer

A MAN accused of punching a police officer has been charged with assault.

Police arrested the man after the Norlane incident on Thursday night.

Victoria Police spokeswoman Kathryn Muffett said two officers were responding to an incident at a Brookes St property when they were approached by an unknown man in the street.

The man allegedly punched one of the police officers in the face. The member suffered facial injuries and was taken to hospital.

A 48-year-old Grovedale man was arrested.

During the arrest, police allege a 44-year-old Norlane woman attempted to intervene and was also taken into custody.

The man has been charged with the indictable assault of an emergency worker and will appear at Geelong Magistrates Court on October 7.

The woman was charged with hindering police. She will appear at Geelong Magistrates Court on the same date.
