GEELONG’S drinkers will have extra reason to celebrate on Saturday, as the final day of yet another election campaign coincides with World Whisky Day.
The team behind the Bellarine Distillery’s Whiskery – thought to be producers of the first commercial whisky made in the region for 40 years – said Saturday would be the perfect time to raise a glass.
“Whisky: the drink for births, weddings, funerals and the occasional election (to celebrate or to commiserate!),” founder Russ Watsons said.
“My love of whisky stems from the unique story of its origin, the enormity in the range of flavours which are dependent on the combination of the still, climate and barrel and the universal appeal of holding a glass of liquid gold.”
International Whisky Day is held each year on the third Saturday of May.
