PAWS PITTER PATTER FOR A CAUSE
HUNDREDS of pooches and their humans headed to the Geelong Botanic Gardens on Sunday to take part in RSPCA Victoria’s largest fundraising day of the year.
The Million Paws Walk raises funds to support RSPCA Victoria’s work in fighting animal cruelty and caring for animals in need across the state.
The not-for-profit organisation ran nine events on Sunday, with thousands taking part in the walks. The Geelong event attracted about 500 participants.
According to the RSPCA Victoria website, $36 can help provide a bed and
day’s worth of care for a dog at one of its centres, and a grand total of $645,755 has so far been raised in the event’s history.
This year’s target is $360,000, RSPCA Victoria chief executive Liz Walker said.
“Every single dollar raised, including entry fees, merchandise sales and online fundraising, helps fund RSPCA’s critical work for vulnerable animals,” Dr Walker said.
