DIGNITEA HIGH TEA EVENT RETURNS
SHARE the Dignity will hold a high tea in Geelong on Friday to raise awareness and funds for those experiencing period poverty across the region.
The event is one of 11 DigniTea events held across Australia during May in celebration and recognition of World Menstrual Hygiene Day on Saturday.
The event series, hosted by Roxie Bennett, is aiming to raise more than $450,000 and bring together more than 5000 people to help women and girls in need.
Share the Dignity founder and managing director Rochelle
Courtenay said she was expecting this year’s DigniTea high tea events to be bigger and better.
“I’m so excited to see our muchloved DigniTea event series return in full force after a challenging couple of years,” she said.
“Like many charities, our monetary donations took a hit in 2020 and 2021 … which slowed our progress in areas like our dignity vending machines.
“But ending period poverty is about more than just funding, collecting and distributing products.
“It’s also about removing the shame and stigma associated with menstruation and being relentless in lobbying for policy changes to ensure dignified and reliable access for all.
“We’ve missed being able to bring people together to talk about periods at events like DigniTea. Conversations can be so powerful and are essential in breaking the taboo around menstruation and inciting action.”
Friday’s event is at the Novotel Geelong from 12.30pm-3.30pm. Tickets are $99.
