NO CONSOLATION PRIZE FOR LOSING CANDIDATE

-

SATURDAY’S election result has not been the one Stephanie Asher was hoping for.

The people of Corangamite have spoken loud and clear.

As a citizen of COGG, l do not want the mayoral role to be her consolation prize.

At a council meeting in 2019, the youth, the grandparents and the community groups of Geelong asked and pleaded with the

COGG Council to declare a climate emergency.

The packed chamber was full of people hoping COGG would join local councils throughout the nation to make a stand.

Under Asher’s leadership we got a no vote. In fact, during the meeting, l was appalled to see her constantly looking down while our citizens made their pleas.

We can’t ignore Saturday’s result, locally and nationally.

The success of the ALP, the Greens and the teal independents is the bell tolling for change.

As the guest ABC political analyst concluded on Saturday night in regards to the LNP: the “wheel is still moving but the hamster is dead”.

Cr Asher, take the honourable path, step down and allow a councillor in touch with the people to lead us.
