EAGLE’S WINGS CLIPPED

- MATTHEW FORREST

NEWTOWN & Chilwell midfielders will need to look for a different avenue to goal in the next fortnight after star forward Lachlan Bond accepted his two-week GFL suspension.

Bond, who has kicked 17 goals in six games this season, will miss matches against Grovedale and Lara after being found guilty of striking South Barwon’s Todd White.

He kicked two bags of five majors in the opening fortnight of the season before missing the Eagles’ round 4 clash through illness.

Bond has also featured at VFL level with Geelong this year after his hot start to the season in front of the sticks.

In the GDFL, Thomson’s Daniel Freeman will also miss two weeks after choosing not to challenge a set penalty for a dangerous tackle.

Freeman was reported for engaging in rough conduct with Inverleigh’s Lachlan Buyel and will miss games against North Geelong and Corio.

Bannockburn’s Brett Harding will miss one game after being found guilty of carelessly striking North Geelong’s Dylan Fisher.

Bannockburn will play Werribee Centrals on Saturday without Harding.

Given all three senior suspensions were accepted, the AFL Barwon tribunal was not required to sit this week.
