’AMAZING’ MERRIN IS A FAVOURITE

- MICHAELA MEADE

KINDER teacher Merrin Wood has been praised as an “incredible educator” by the community.

Ms Wood, who has been teaching for 31 years, is much loved by children at Christian College’s Williams House kindergarten in Belmont. Geelong mum Kate Rice said both of her children had benefited from having Ms Wood as their three-year-old kinder teacher. “Merrin bursts with joy and shows such a caring and engaging attitude towards each child in her care,” Ms Rice said in a nomination for Ms Wood as a standout kinder teacher.

“She really takes time to connect and know each child individually and ensures they feel safe and valued. “As a parent, I felt my children were in very safe hands in her care.”

Mum Vesna Radivojevic said after once volunteering in Ms Wood’s program, she felt she “had to” send her children to be part of her class.

She said Ms Wood was “one of a kind”. “I just can’t explain the magic she brings to the program and into the children’s lives,” Ms Radivojevic said.

“She is amazing at what she does, so kind and caring and always puts children’s needs first!

Ms Wood said she loved children’s sense of wonder when they learned something new. Ms Wood is among a number of kinder teachers in the region who have been nominated by community members for their work.
