Dragons head into final full of belief

-

BELL Park captain Jamie Spiller says his batters will continue to back themselves to reach a big total as they get ready to face off against St Albans Breakwater in Saturday’s GCA3 decider.

The Dragons were kept to just 188 in their qualifying final loss to the Saints, but a dominant showing with the bat in the preliminary final has “given the boys plenty of confidence”.

Spiller said the Dragons had enough depth to post a big score if “one or two guys got going” at Hamlyn Park.

“Our top order has been getting the job done, when you’re getting scores of 220, 230 and more each week it puts you in good stead to defend that,” he said.

“Our bowling attack prides itself on choking the opposition, really being able to restrict them, but last time we played them (the Saints) we didn’t post enough to have that pressure.

“Nothing will change for us, we were 2-150 and had a bit of a collapse but nothing will change, we’ll back our plans in and hopefully come Saturday afternoon all our hard work comes through and rewards us.

“If anything the loss was probably a bit of a wake-up call to be honest, it’s pretty rare a side will go through a season undefeated. In saying that the competition is pretty even, anyone can win a game on any given day, so we need to be ready again.”
