Hunt for men over ‘mistake’ home invasion

- Blair Jackson

Police believe a couple in their 60s who were tied up and blindfolded while being robbed by four men in a Melbourne home invasion were targeted by mistake.

The incident happened in June 2023, but on Wednesday police issued a call for information as well as computer-generated images of two suspects.

“This was an incredibly stressful incident for both vicAbout

tims, and we are committed to identifying those responsible and holding them to account,” Detective Senior Sergeant Justin Mercovich said.

9pm on June 23, the group of four, dressed in all black, broke into a house on Beckett Rd, Donvale, confronting a woman, 65, and a man, 67.

The victims were held at knifepoint and assaulted, police said on Wednesday.

One victim’s hands were tied behind their back and the other’s face was covered while the property was ransacked.

“The offenders remained in the property for around an hour, demanding access to a safe,” police said. They stole $160,000 worth of items, including jewellery and Rolex, Panerai and Omega watches.

“Following an extensive investigation, detectives believe the victims were targeted mistakenly,” police said.

Detectives are looking for two men of Pacific Islander appearance, both in their 20s and with a solid build. One has a tattoo across the front of his neck.
