Happy anniversary bid for ’Baby

- Brad Waters

Consistent mare Let’sbefrankbaby could celebrate an anniversary in style at Caulfield on Saturday.

Let’sbefrankbaby won the Group 3 SA Fillies’ Classic (2500m) at Morphettville last year and that race will again be run in Adelaide on Saturday.

Trainers Robbie Griffiths and Mathew de Kock appear to have found the perfect assignment for the mare in Saturday’s JRA Handicap (2400m) at Caulfield.

Let’sbefrankbaby missed the spring but has returned to racing in solid fashion, pleasing the stable with her three autumn starts.

The daughter of Frankel carried 63kg in two runs in Benchmark 70 grade before another competitive effort when disadvantaged at the weights in the $175,000 VOBIS Gold Heath (2000m) at Caulfield on April 27.

She faced Berkeley Square at level weights at Caulfield but would have carried 8.5kg less than the Group 2 winner in a real handicap.

“She’s had two runs over short distances, 1500 and 1600(m) and gone well in both,” de Kock said.

“Last time was at set weights against Berkeley Square and she ran a good race.”

Let’sbefrankbaby steps up to 2400m at Caulfield while dropping in class.

The Cranbourne-based de Kock said the race was set up perfectly for Let’sbefrankbaby.

“(It’s) her right distance, right grade and she should run well again,” he said. “She’s ready to win now.”

Punters have been keen on her, backing the mare from $4.40 to $3.90 on the TAB.
