Punters dig deep at charity ball

Geraldton Guardian - - NEWS - Adam Poulsen

A who’s who of Mid West personalities donned their best outfits for the 2018 Midwest Charity Begins at Home gala dinner, held recently at Geraldton’s Batavia Hall.

The main event of the night was a live auction of dozens of items donated by local businesses.

President Chris Dobson said about $200,000 was raised this year, which will provide financial help to Mid West families affected by serious illnesses.

“It was a huge success,” she said. “In one particular raffle, the 420 guests raised more than $7000 in just 10 minutes, purchasing Furry Friends chocolate bars.”

Ms Dobson thanked all volunteers and sponsors who helped

make the event happen. Now in its 11th year, the gala ball has gone from strength to strength.

In 2016 it raised more than $180,000 and about $200,000 last year.
