Young guns show talent runs in fam­ily

Their late grand­fa­ther was a WA player and their dad is the cap­tain of their club, so it’s lit­tle won­der the Var­ney broth­ers love their ten­nis. “They’re not su­per­stars but they are as keen as and play in a Mon­day night ten­nis academy,” dad Andrew says of sons Pa­trick, 13, and Blake, 15.

Andrew is the cap­tain of the Spald­ing Park Ten­nis Club, where the broth­ers play weekly.

“My Dad, Kings­ley, was a three­time win­ner of the Easter Open in Ger­ald­ton and rep­re­sented WA in the Lin­ton Cup.

“I don’t play as much any­more and I’m not as good as the boys.”
