Each year, in addition to our Leisure Lifestyle Awards, Global Traveler acknowledges those travel companies going above and beyond. Our Special Achievement Awards recognize leaders in innovation, environmental initiatives and community outreach. Congratulations to this year’s honorees!
In 2021, United Airlines, the only major U.S. airline to own a flight school, United Aviate Academy, outlined an ambitious plan to train 5,000 new pilots by 2030, with at least half of them women and people of color. Its commitment to diversity, inclusion and providing access earned United Airlines the Outstanding Social Responsibility title.
Alula is located in Saudi Arabia’s northwest, and its Design & Spatial Vision Masterplan to develop and deliver five districts and turn the area into a leading global destination for arts, heritage, culture and nature won Alula the Outstanding Customized Services honor.
The Red Sea Development Company, the developer behind the most regenerative tourism project in the world in Saudi Arabia, partnered with SOURCE, a renewable, sustainable water brand, to ensure The Red Sea Project is the first destination to offer bottled water made purely from sunlight and air. As such, The Red Sea Development Company is the 2021 winner of Outstanding Environmental Initiatives.
Pittsburgh International Airport introduced a new innovation center, xbridge. The facility houses a custom-built innovation space to support the evolution of the airport industry and find creative solutions to industry challenges, including partnerships with community members, students and more. It is fitting PIT is this year’s Outstanding Innovations honoree.
