Seasons of Travel
Ihave always loved fall. As a girl and, later, as a teacher, I anticipated the new school year: spanking-new school supplies and books and renewed friendships. I love the shift in seasons from long, hot summer days to crisp, lengthening evenings and brilliant autumn colors. I enjoy the increased tempo of activities, travel and holidays.
And since I started working for Global Traveler and Fxexpress Publications, Inc. (15 years and counting!), I look forward to the announcement of the winners of our annual GT Tested Reader Survey awards and the gala celebration to honor them we hold each December.
But I’m getting a bit ahead of myself. Here in our November issue we take a look back at two awards events we celebrated earlier this year. In April Global Traveler’s sister web publication
Whereverfamily feted the winners of its sixth annual Wherever Awards, honoring the best in family travel, at Kimpton Hotel Monaco Washington, D.C. Then, in June, the Union League
Philadelphia hosted our 11th Leisure Lifestyle Awards party, where we recognized providers, purveyors and products in the leisure travel market chosen as outstanding by our readers. Turn to page 38 for a recap of these joyful gatherings.
And, as always, we offer a full roster of destinations to get you dreaming of future travels. On page 52 Sharon King Hoge takes us to the Renaissance jewel of Florence, proving itself a 21st-century gem as well, while Richard Newton risks revealing the delights of his own backyard in the Peak District of England on page 72. Hop from continent to continent as we visit Lima, Peru; Bangkok, Thailand; Johannesburg, South Africa; Corsica, France; Dubai, U.A.E.; and Iceland. Or explore closer to home with stops in Virginia
Beach, Virginia, and the Grand Canyon in Arizona.
Here’s to safe travels wherever your adventuring heart takes you this month, and we hope to see you next month at The Langham Huntington, Pasadena for the GT Tested Reader Survey awards!
