HOW TO SET UP FOR EACH CLUB IN THE BAG

Club length, posture and the distance you stand from the ball all combine to vary the ball’s position.

-

DRIVER

Stance width: Wide Ball position: Well forward With the driver, you’re creating your most powerful swing with the least amount of loft on the clubface so you need a wide base to maintain your balance. Play the ball well forward (underneath your left armpit) to ensure you strike it slightly on the upswing.

MID-IRON

Stance width: Medium Ball position: Just forward of centre With a slightly shorter iron, you can narrow your stance a little due to the fact that you will be generating less swing speed. Your ball position will also move an inch or so towards the centre of your stance to ensure that it is struck with a slight descending blow.

SHORT-IRON

Stance width: Narrow Ball position: Fairly central With your shorter irons and wedges, the emphasis is on control rather than power. Narrow your stance down to just under shoulder-width apart and move the ball towards the centre of your stance. This will set your hands slightly ahead of the ball.
