‘On a par 5, it’s always about the 3rd shot’
The 530-yard par-5 15th hole at Augusta National is one where the bigger hitters have a sizable advantage so I need to think extra-hard about my strategy. The tee shot is crucial, but on par-5s you want to be in a good position to play your third shot to make birdie. If I get a good drive away, I’ll have a hybrid or a 4-iron into the green. You can go long but that leaves a dicult pitch on back or left pins. The right bunker can be a good bail out because I can get to any pin from there. Hit two really good shots and you get a look at birdie. Having said that, I’ve also had success from laying up.
