SCOTT COMFORT BY DESIGN

-

For several years now you have been a global ambassador for the UNIQLO brand. Your partnership is a little different than just wearing their clothes, I believe you have even had a say in the design of UNIQLO’s Kando pants? Firstly, let’s be clear … I’m not a clothing designer (laughs).

But you know what feels good and looks good? I think I do (laughs). As far as partnerships go I feel I have more involvement with UNIQLO than anyone else. They are open to hearing my opinion about things and it feels like a partnership. They’re obviously wanting me to look my best out on the golf course but to perform my best too, and it is very much a partnership and a team effort and I’ve really enjoyed that over the six or seven years that I have been with UNIQLO.

At this point in my career that’s a very nice thing.

You’re always on the go, what are some of your ‘must have’ items for travel? There are lots and for anyone that knows UNIQLO, everyone ends up with their favourite UNIQLO item. But for me, who wears UNIQLO solely on and off the golf course, the jeans are a staple as are extra fine Merino sweaters. They’re a big thing for me because they’re lightweight and work everywhere. And, of course, I travel with polo shirts which I spend a lot of time in.

But the Kando pants are something I helped develop with UNIQLO because I challenged them to come up with a better trouser, for me to play golf in, than the options they had at the time. With their resources and team, they found a great material and we made a very modern, practical pant that I can play golf in. But this is life wear and they can be worn anywhere … breaking down the stiff dress codes and creating something that can be worn on the course, into the office or out for dinner.
