THE FUTURE OF SPEED
Callaway’s latest driver release offers greater ball speeds to all players. The Epic Speed, Epic Max and Epic Max LS drivers have been announced alongside Epic Speed and Epic Max fairway woods.
The three new driver models are powered by the company’s all-new ‘Jailbreak Speed Frame’, which advances on previous Jailbreak technology to offer increased face strength and ball speeds across a greater area.
Created through the use of Artificial Intelligence (A.I.), the new Jailbreak Speed Frame creates horizontal and torsional stiffness in addition to vertical, and works in concert with the A.I. designed ‘Flash Face’ to offer more distance on centre strikes and mis-hits.
The Epic Speed is billed as “the fastest Epic driver ever” by Callaway, and suitable to a variety of players. Refined aerodynamics create more clubhead speed, while increased forgiveness compared with MAVRIK drivers comes via the ‘Triaxial’ carbon covering more of the crown and toe and weight redistribution.
Whereas the Speed is about the characteristic it is named for, the Epic Max is built for maximum forgiveness combined with ball speed, for longer and straighter drives.
A more substantial carbon crown saves more weight than the Speed, that is then precisely placed for a low centre of gravity (CG), draw bias and higher moment of inertia (MOI), producing higher launch and tighter dispersion.
A 17-gram sliding weight allows for players to account for their preferred ball flight or typical mis-hit, and when combined with the ‘OptiFit’ hosel creates up to 20 yards of ball flight control.
Aimed at middle and lower handicap players, the Epic Max LS is engineered for ball speed and forgiveness, with a neutral bias and lower spin.
Again, the carbon crown and toe area saves significant weight when compared to titanium that is then redistributed to produce high launch and low spin in a driver with adjustable weight.
The two new fairway woods both utilise ‘Jailbreak A.I. Velocity Blades’ and a forged face cup. The Jailbreak Velocity Blades are precisely shaped to stiffen the body of the new models, while also allowing the face cup to flex more efficiently.
Featuring a face made from extremely strong and flexible C300 Maraging Steel, the Epic Speed has a CG positioned forward in the head for a more penetrating flight, while a refined leading edge ensures consistency. Oversized with a shallow face, the Epic Max fairway is easier to hit and features moveable weights to optimise flight. RRP: $879.99 (drivers); $499.99 (fairways).
