Tackle your fears in the New Year
IT’S ABOUT TIME TO START THINKING OF THE YEAR AHEAD AND THE RESOLUTIONS YOU MAY MAKE. IF GETTING OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE IS ON THE AGENDA, WHY NOT TAKE UP THE 100 DAYS WITHOUT FEAR CHALLENGE?
The ‘100 Days Without Fear’ challenge was started by Michelle Poler for her final project in her graduate program, when she realised that her anxieties and need for control were stopping her from living life to the fullest. So she made a list of everything that scared her – from pain to animals, to wearing patterns – and devoted 100 days to tackling a fear a day. Her project culminated in a TED talk at Tedxhouston, where she said, “I don’t believe in absolute fearlessness, but I do believe that we can negotiate with our fears. It’s a way to pursue our dreams and open ourselves to experiences that we never even considered.” And that’s something we can all take on board. In need of inspiration?
