The relaxation cabin RELAX, RESTORE, REJUVENATE

If you’re in need of some respite, Earth Energies Sanctuary is a stunning place to centre and connect with your inner self.

- Words Lara Wyatt

When you book an Earth Energies Sanctuary retreat, you’re not just signing up for a relaxing break away from the world, you’re signing up for a complete mindset shift. As owner and creator Marie Latus says, “A busy, over-stimulated brain can mean no peace and sky-rocketing stress levels. Taking a step back and ‘re-setting’ can be essential for mental and physical health and wellbeing.” And this is what Earth Energies Sanctuary is all about. Achieving a natural balance.

Tucked away off State Highway 2 in Mangatarata, a beautiful lifestyle block awaits you. Try your best to arrive during the daytime as there is so much beauty to take in as you drive up the one-kilometre road to the gorgeous cabin at the top. Latus, owner and creator of Earth Energies Sanctuary and Earth Energies kawakawa products, will meet you at the cabin and

run you through the basics. Soon we were left alone in our gorgeous suite.

A huge bathtub looks straight on to beautiful natural scenery. This is a lovely way to unwind once you get to the cabin. I recommend indulging in a glass of wine and some of the handcrafted Epsom bath salts that Latus puts together, to really revel in some time out.

One important life lesson that was reaffirmed during our stay, was the reminder of how important it is to make time for yourself and the important people in your life. My partner and I chatted more than we had in a long time and without laptops to distract us it felt like real quality time together.

The following morning you can cook yourself a breakfast from the local meats, vegetables and eggs that are in the fridge – depending on the package you have signed up for. You can also bring along your own snacks if you’d like. Taking the time out to cook and eat a decent meal is such a great way to start the day. After breakfast we got ourselves prepped and ready for a half-day of treatments at the therapy rooms, which are located next to Latus and her husband Duncan’s home – just a bit further up the driveway.

Pop your spa slippers on, leave any worries or concerns at the door and prepare yourself to be mindful and present throughout the session. The first therapy of the day was a kawakawa foot soak – super dreamy. Latus took this time to discuss with us what we wanted to focus on – was it stress and anxiety or something else? Our experience was then tailored to suit our needs.

Next up was a 30-minute infrared sauna. The sounds were tailored to us, and we were left to switch off and chill (or sweat more like) with a lemon-infused water in hand. Spending this time in the sauna can help with giving your immune system a boost, detoxing your body and easing muscle and joint pain.

While my partner hopped into the Float Orb, I was off for a Zero Balancing session.

Latus explained that Zero Balancing offers bone-deep relaxation. It uses skilled touch to address the relationship between our body and energy flow. It doesn’t use any cracking or crunching techniques. It’s all very gentle but thoughtful. By releasing stress it can help the flow of energy as well as reduce pain and enhance balance. It can also help to release mental and emotional tension. The Zero Balance Secrets of the Skull therapy focuses on your head and neck. It involves the gentle release of strain patterns within the cranial bones, membranes and brain structures. It can help to relieve compression in the head, neck and back and soothe pain.

It was then time to swap to the Float Orb. Inside is bodytemperature water mixed with 500 kilograms of Epsom salts, which, when you lay back, makes your body float to the surface. Close the lid, choose whether to have the dim-coloured light on or turn it off altogether, and close your eyes. Latus selects music she thinks best suits you, and from inside the orb you can choose to have this on or off. It’s an hour of relaxation. It can help to decrease anxiety, relieve physical pain, increase feelings of wellbeing as well as increase creativity.

Spending this time at Earth Energies Sanctuary really did help to put a lot of things into perspective. Sometimes you don’t realise how much stress and emotions you’re carrying on your shoulders, and taking this time out to really get in touch with your mind and wellbeing is therapeutic. For people leading busy lives, taking time out at Earth Energies Sanctuary may be just the thing you need.
