Write down a list of your strengths – all the things you’re good at. Then take a moment to reflect on it and be proud of it. Ask others to contribute to this list too, as we’re usually too modest when it comes to a self-assessment. Keeping an achievement journal or simply thinking of three things we did well at the end of each day can help us overcome self-doubt and increase our awareness of our strengths. Gratitude is something that is easy to practise yet we underestimate its impact. Try it for 10 days and see what it does for you. I begin each day thinking of three things I’m grateful for, and it helps train my brain to be more positive. In the words of Jackie Clark: ‘Own your shit, own your shine.’ Yes, we all make mistakes, but rather than beating yourself up about these regrets, own them and know they help shape who you are today. The next time someone praises you, know you’ve earned it. If all you can say is thank you because anything more feels like boasting, then start there. Owning your shine is not being immodest; it’s being a great woman, and it inspires others. It also makes you more shiny.
