How you can earn for you and the planet with #nzforgood

If, like team Good, you are mourning at how quickly Kiwis returned to their old energy-consumption habits following the initial lockdown during the current COVID-19 crisis, we have some good news in the form of the #nzforgood programme, the brainchild of our favourite clean energy company, solarcity.

The idea was spawned from a conversation about some of the positives that came from lockdown, such as less pollution and clean air. That happened because we did something – we stopped. So the solarcity team asked the question – ‘can we do something and empower others to do something?’

How it works

#nzforgood allows Kiwis to engage with solarcity’s mission to lower the cost of energy for homeowners and get New Zealand to a zero-carbon future sooner.

It also provides the opportunity to earn some money by making a simple referral.

And the cool thing about #nzforgood is you don’t have to be a homeowner or a solarZero customer to participate.

· If you’re a homeowner, sign up for solarcity’s subscription-based solarZero energy service. A solar energy system is installed at your home without upfront or ongoing costs. You pay a fixed monthly solarZero energy fee for the solar energy your home consumes and you even get paid for the excess solar energy the system exports back to the grid.

· Don’t own a home? You can become a solarZero fanSZ and refer homeowners you know to solarcity through the #nzforgood programme. There’s no limit to the referrals you can make. Each one has a unique code that is attached to your fanSZ membership so that you earn $500 for every one that has solarZero installed. And while there’s no obligation for the referral to convert to solar, if they do everyone’s a winner – you, them and the environment.

Way of the future

Increased future household power usage is inevitable as we begin to use (and need to power) electrical vehicles. So now is the perfect time to look at your power bill and ask what it means for you to take action against climate change?

Choosing solar energy is a positive action. It will reduce your household’s carbon footprint and also your power bill – by an average of 30 per cent over 20 years.

To date there are more than 4,200 New Zealand customers powering their homes with solarZero, with each home reducing their carbon emissions by an average of 15 tonnes. Imagine the impact on the environment if everyone chose solar.

Who is #nzforgood for?

solarZero is designed to benefit anyone who is passionate about the environment – and those environmental benefits are multi-faceted. With more homes powered by solarZero, there is a reduced demand on the existing infrastructure and power supply from the national grid, an increase in the pool of renewable energy available to New Zealanders, and a cumulative reduction in carbon emissions.

With solarZero the cost barrier of the technology hardware investment is no longer an issue for those who want to live more sustainably – and

lower their power bills!

Timeframe

The #nzforgood programme closes on 30 November 2020 so if you want to start making a difference and earning some money, get cracking!
