Hilma af Klint: The Secret Paintings

Hilma af Klint created many of her exuberantly colourful abstract works – some over three metres tall – more than a century ago. She left instructions that following her death, her work be kept secret for 20 years, believing the world was not yet ready for them. A hundred years later, her paintings have ignited art galleries worldwide, including the Guggenheim Museum in New York, where in 2018 they attracted the largest audience in the museum’s 60-year history. hilmaafklint.nz citygallery.org.nz
