CHIDO GOVERA
Last year, René Redzepi bookended the final service of his Noma Australia pop-up with the first MAD event outside Denmark. While MAD SYD at the Sydney Opera House included a line-up of rock-star chefs, one of the day’s most memorable speakers was Chido Govera. The Zimbabwean farmer and campaigner was orphaned at age seven and, at 11, rejected a future as a child bride to a 40-year-old man. She opted to create her own fate by cultivating mushrooms from local waste instead. She’s since taught thousands of women in developing countries to empower themselves through sustainable farming and is the founder of The Future of Hope organisation.
