HOMECOMING QUEENS

Combine the awkward horror of HBO’s Girls with the screeching wrong-town humour of Broad City, and mix it with a story about crippling early-onset illness, and you’re getting close to Homecoming Queens. This is SBS On Demand’s first original series and it’s everything I look for in a comedy: brilliant writing, an original spin on female relationships, and a scene with a sex toy that’ll be difficult to forget. And yes, I would be recommending this even if I wasn’t related to one of its co-creators, how dare you suggest otherwise. It’s one of those shows that’ll make you laugh, but only once you’ve burst into tears.
