SOCIAL FEED
Melbourne-based charity Free to Feed has found a new home and events space in Fitzroy North. Co-founder Loretta Bolotin launched the project five and a half years ago, after working with refugees and people in asylum, and seeing the potential for hospitality to become a career pathway. “I grew up in a migrant family. Food was the connector and leveller,” says Bolotin. Free to Feed harnesses the talents and celebrates the ambition of newly arrived people through leadership, cooking and storytelling training programs, which then allow them to teach cooking classes and serve professionally catered feasts. With a growing waiting list, the new home is set to continue Free to Feed’s mission on an even larger scale, hosting both public events and internal training programs, with a commercial kitchen, high ceilings, terrazzo floors, a fireplace and plenty of room for long table dinners. freetofeed.org.au
