THE WHEEL PACKAGE DEAL

-

Not content with merely running one of the best hotels and restaurants in the state, the folks at Launceston’s Stillwater are also kicking goals with a series of luxury package holidays. These include truffle, wine and gin-themed tours but the most recent is the four-night Tasmanian Tesla Traverse. As the name implies, there is a Tesla involved (a Model 3 Long Range to be exact), which is your transport from Hobart to Launceston and for the two days you spend in Launceston. The package starts with two nights in Hobart, staying at brand new The Rox apartments, luxurious loft-style duplexes on Elizabeth Street that come with fully-equipped kitchens, two bedrooms and, on one night, room service from Hobart’s hottest wine bar Sonny. The food – a series of eight small courses that might include freshly shucked oysters, pickled mussels, salumi and a pasta – arrives at the door in dabbas (tiffin containers) and is accompanied by wine from Sonny’s cellar. Then comes the Tesla, delivered to The Rox or collected from Hobart or Launceston, with the drive to Launceston on Tasmania’s gloriously uncluttered roads worth the price of admission alone. But there’s more: two nights in Stillwater Seven, one of the great small hotels of Australia and dinner both nights in the excellent, local produce-focused Stillwater restaurant. There’s a Tesla charging station at Stillwater so your vehicle is always up for exploring the surrounding countryside. The only downside of the TTT? A reluctance to return, both the Tesla and to reality. The Tasmania Tesla Traverse starts at $5990 for two. stillwater.com.au
