Shire of Kojonup plans to apply for a $500,000 Federal grant to upgrade its aged care facility will be voted on at the upcoming council meeting.

Shire chief executive Rick Mitchell-Collins said, if successful, the grant would be used to refurbish Springhaven Lodge kitchen and laundry facilities.

“This opportunity doesn’t come along very often so we have to maximise the potential of this grant,” he said.

“The building was built in the 1980s — so the standard and quality of the building has deteriorate over time.

“We’ve upgraded the residential rooms two financial years ago, but other part of the building now need to be renovated.”

Other improvements in the lodge will also include the installation of automatic doors to give residents easier access.

The facility’s doorways will also be upgraded to allow easy access for residents to be wheeled out of their rooms when needed.

Mr Mitchell-Collins said the grant application would be submitted before October 24.
