Fire causes $2m damage
Hugely grateful and thankful for everyone that turned up. Owner Roger Ballard
Fire has caused damage worth an estimated $2 million at a Ballard’s Hay hay processing shed east of Narrogin on Friday night.
The fire was reported at 8.50pm on Friday. Firefighting crews from Wagin, Narrogin and Piesseville, as well as dozens of local farmers, were called in to fight the blaze.
The fire was contained to a single shed by 12.30am on Saturday.
A DFES investigation and analysis officer was unable to determine the cause of the fire. A spokeswoman told The Observer the shed would have to be demolished and that a “significant amount of hay bales” were destroyed in the blaze.
Owner Roger Ballard said he was devastated by the fire.
“We will rebuild and the business will stay in the area,” he said.
“Hugely grateful and thankful for everyone that turned up. Seeing everyone turn out to put the blaze out and save all our other equipment was phenomenal.”
