WHEN Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her silver jubilee at the Parmelia Hilton in 1977, she ate off one of these gold Wedgwood edition plates, possibly the one pictured.

Parmelia Hilton general manager David Constantine shared this fact among others at a long table lunch celebrating the Perth hotel’s 50th anniversary last week.

The Mill Street hotel opened on December 15, 1968. Next year the Hilton chain of hotels will celebrate its centenary. Mr Constantine said the Hilton was the first hotel worldwide to have running water and TVs and also invented the martini and pina colada cocktails. Breakfast favourite eggs benedict was invented at a Hilton hotel.
