Medina well placed for world title at Pipe
THE pointy end of the men’s World Surf League World Title race is upon us at the Pipe Masters in Hawaii.
Australia’s Ryan Callinan was victorious in the final of the trials in difficult conditions, earning him a spot at Pipe.
As the final stop on the men’s tour, Pipe has seen many world titles decided over the years and 2018 is no different.
Australia’s Julian Wilson and Brazil’s Felipe Toledo will be hoping for a sub-par performance by current ratings leader Gabriel Medina, of Brazil.
Both Julian and Felipe will need impressive finishes as well as an early exit by Medina to give themselves a shot at a maiden world title.
A solid performance by Medina will see him earn his second WSL world title, having taken out the 2014 season when he tied with Kelly Slater as the youngest world champion of all time.
