Jam tracks tips
Use these tips to navigate our bonus backing tracks
➊ Boogie Blues (E)
We start with a fun boogie blues in the vein of John Lee Hooker and ZZ Top. Use E Minor Pentatonic (E-G-A-B-D) and E Major Pentatonic (E-F#-G#-B-C#) as a starting point. Then try adding E Mixolydian (E-F#-G#-A-B-C#-D) and E Dorian (E-F#-G-A-B-C#-D) into the mix.
➋ Jazz Blues Waltz (Cm)
Here’s a cool C minor jazz-blues in 3/4 time. C Minor Pentatonic (C-Eb-F-G-Bb) is a good place to start, as is C Minor scale itself (C-D-Eb-F-G-Ab-Bb). Ab7 For the
Ab chords, try Lydian Dominant (Ab-Bb-C-D-Eb-F-Gb); and for the G7 chords, C Harmonic Minor (C-D-Eb-F-G-Ab-B) will work great.
➌ Funk Jam (A)
This funk jam has lots of space for you to practice your 16th-note funk strumming technique. For your riffs and soloing, I recommend mixing up A Minor Pentatonic (A-C-DE-G) with A Major Pentatonic (A-B-C#-E-F#) to giver a bluesy edge to your funky soloing.
➍ Easy I-VIm Jazz Jam (G)
This jazzy jam moves between the I chord (G) and the VIm chord (Em). You could see this as going between the key of G Major and its relative minor key, E Minor. The seven notes of G Major (G-A-B-C-D-E-F#) work toohroughout (becoming E Minor); and E Minor Pentatonic (E-G-AB-D)
(E-G-A-Bb-B-D) and E Blues sound great too. Happy jamming!
