This is a com­mon jazzy pro­gres­sion, known as a I-VI-II-V, played here us­ing all dom­i­nant 7 chords: I7-VI7-II7-V7 and in this case C7-A7-D7-G7. No­tice that the notes on the third and fourth strings are all tri­tones, which com­bined with the bass-notes cre­ate two dif­fer­ent dom­i­nant 7th shapes.
