Get the Tone

Ronnie Montrose used a Gibson Les Paul plugged into a Fender Bandmaster amp on the first Montrose album, and tended to favour classic instruments such as Les Paul, Telecaster and Esquire. Effects were generally minimal, with a ‘guitar into amp’ approach employed most of the time. Go for a classic medium drive tone with some nice amp reverb. Use the guitar’s controls to add or reduce gain.
