EXAMPLE3 FIVE REPEATING CELL IDEAS (BLUES/CLASSIC ROCK)
CD TRACK 21
Here we explore how repetitious patterns can be employed in blues and rock. There’s more of formulaic strategy here, with each idea essentially adding once more note to each repetitious cell, staring with a two-note Buddy Guy hammer-on idea. Next, we morph into a three-note cross-rhythmic line that many classic rock players have adopted, but for me, Paul Kossoff springs to mind. We’ve attributed Slash with our pattern of four, although this could have easily gone to Jimmy Page. We round this section off with a Clapton inspired cross-rhythmic five-note idea and a six-note pull-off courtesy of Jimi Hendrix.
