TECHNIQUE FOCUS

Sound Quality

-

A major goal for classical guitarists is to produce a good sound quality. In particular the three fingers of the picking hand will need to produce a consistent, even tone with excellent clarity on the treble strings. Fingernails are a big factor; finding the right length and shape and keeping them in filed and in excellent condition is key. Spend a few minutes working on each finger separately. Pluck and repeat one finger on an open string (I start with the third string) over and over working on reproducing a good, strong, consistent tone then move onto the next finger. Use a good quality soft nail file to smooth away any rough edges.
