Start bar one with the fretting-hand first finger on its tip for the E on the second string then collapse the fingertip joint to create a two-string barré on beat 3 for the A on the first string. Our goal is smooth, connected notes, which can be tricky when the fretting hand has awkward manoeuvres. From the last note of bar 19 into the first note of bar 20 the fretting-hand third finger has to hop over quickly from the second string to the fourth. This is not ideal so we have to try make it neat by holding on as long as possible and movng as late as possible. So keep contact with the first finger, third string throughout this shift.
