EXAMPLE FULL PIECE

CD TRACK 50

[Bars 19-22] Here’s a series of triads played on the top three strings. Additional chord tones give each transition movement due to voice leading. [Bars 23-30] We play a single Gmaj7 chord before a minor II-V cadence brings the piece back to E Minor. I haven’t notated every nuance here, but if you listen to the main track you will hear slides when playing the double-stops. The Gmaj7 arpeggio with added 9th (bar 26) is another nod Spanky’s jazz side.

[Bars 31-40] Here the progression returns to the original idea. We follow the syncopated chords with a melodic line 10 that’s typical of what you’ll hear in Spanky’s playing. The piece ends with a final flutter chord before landing on a short, clipped E note to resolve the piece.
