MARK LETTERI
DEEP: THE BARITONE SESSIONS VOL 2
Delta Music 10/10
Letteri is not only a primary guitarist in groove bands, Snarky Puppy and The Fearless Flyers but a new artist for PRS guitars (the Fiore is quite something) and a solo artist too. One aspect of his style is his exploration of the baritone guitar; set clean or crunchy and detuned to B (B-E-A-D-F#-B) he has a fresh perspective on an instrument that has often been used for niche areas like Nashville doubling duties. Combined with regular tuned six-strings and surrounded by elite musicians, this is an album for groove fans wanting a new source to get on down. Drawing on a well of 70s and 80s funk-soul-pop inspirations, Mark knows how to be both muso and yet infectiously mainstream. Outside of his impeccable funk playing, he can also play a mean rock solo as Pulsar shows. Steve Lukather guests on Star Catchers, a head nodding 12/8 groover with big horns, tight groove guitars and some tasty rock licks. Highly recommended!
