TOP THREE LICKS

-

1. BAR 33: F ALTERED SCALE RUN

Here Jon increases the tension and release factor by playing a cool sounding Altered scale run. This one falls under the finger nicely and adds that extra level of sophistication.

2. BAR 50: FAST ASCENDING TRIADS RUN

Allen uses pre-selected triad fingerings to create an ear-grabbing flurry. The semiquaver sextuplet is quite fast at this tempo so it’s well worth practising this lick slowly to start with.

3. BARS 28–31: RECYCLING A CATCHY MOTIF

Here Jon establishes a catchy motif and then repeats it down two frets. This recycling of the motif helps to provide continuity for the listener. It is also a neat way to navigate difficult chord changes in a melodic way.
