ToneConcepts Inc announces signature pedal for Nels Cline

-

The distortion pedal may not get as much love in the boutique world as its brethren, but Wilco guitarist Nels Cline is aiming to redress the balance with his first signature pedal: ToneConcepts’ GOO. “In a world filled with fuzz boxes and overdrive pedals and very few distortion pedals, I wanted to create a distortion pedal that is creamy, full rich, but also loud and versatile with a lot of sustain and plenty of gain,” he explains

Flexibility seems to be the order of the day for the GOO with claims that it can run the tonal gamut with sustain, response and touch sensitivity to die for. There’s also the stage-friendly consideration of the glow in the dark knobs that should please those of us used to the shadowy confines of gigs. The GOO’s aesthetic was inspired by 1958 movie The Blob, and its graphics represent the film’s jellied beast. Tone monster and pedal aficionado Nels draws from a wide palette in his own work and he’s been wowed by the collaboration with the Canadian company that previously created The Luke preamp boost for Steve Lukather in the Icon series the GOO is part of.

“GOO is the most expressive, touch sensitive and responsive distortion pedal I’ve ever experienced," Nels testifies. “GOO will rock your socks off, and then its singing sustain will envelop you in sonic viscosity and consume you in creamy, dreamy distorted bliss.” The pedal costs $289 and has a limited 2016 run of 250 units.
