The Lunar Drive is an overdrive pedal, but, like several others, it’s designed to deliver in the tonal territory of that most elusive of amps, the Dumble. As well as standard Volume, Drive, Treble and Bass knobs, you get a clipping switch with three settings that are subtly different in their tonal make-up, the ‘A’ setting being our preferred for a smoother top end.

Setting Volume up and Drive down, the pedal can function rather well as a clean boost, particularly with a little extra treble dialled in, those tone knobs incidentally operating in a well-considered range that’s never too extreme. Turn up the Drive and it’s valve-like overdrive all the way, from putting a little of hair on your tone, through to the sound of a well-cranked combo. While we can’t say this pedal definitively sounds like a Dumble, it does occupy similar tonal territory to other pedals that make the D-claim. [TC]
