Designed to emulate tape echo, the Soul Echo has pretty standard delay pedal knobs in Repeat, Time and Mix. However, you’ll also find a Boost knob that can send up to an extra 6dB to your amp and is pretty useful in a buy-one-get-one-free way if you like to kick in some delay for solos. And if you want to use it just as a boost, you can turn the Mix knob right down.

A three-way filter switch sets the tonal character of the repeats, the bottom position being the most strident option, although it’s a pleasant tone and not squeaky clean. The top position knocks a bit of that presence out, but it’s the middle position that really rolls the top end off like well-worn tape – great if you like repeats subtly in the background. The range of delays runs from reverblike up to about 500ms, and the repeat knob can be used to tease the pedal into self-oscillation for freaky effects. [TC]
