Joe Bonamassa

Live At The Greek Theatre

-

Provogue 9/10

The return of the Kings in Los Angeles Before this summer’s tribute to the British blues explosion, Joe tipped his headstock to the three Kings: Freddie, Albert and BB. And in typical fashion, there are no half measures in this 22-song set recorded live at the famed LA theatre venue. With a superb seven-piece band and three backing singers, Joe tackles some of the greatest blues songs of all time and some hand-picked deeper cuts with models appropriate for each legendary bluesman (including the custom V-style guitar called Lucy that was made for Albert King in 1972, loaned by its current owner, Steven Seagal). Bonamassa’s love for the source material shines through voice and guitar here, and he’s remarkable at absorbing the inherent spinetingling traits of his heroes into his own distinct interpretations. He saves the Kings’ most iconic songs for last (Hideaway, Born Under A Bad Sign and The Thrill Is Gone), but the whole thing is a high note.
