Repertoire Records 8/10

Base camp for fledgling mountaineers Mountain originally came about in 1969 and, for many, represents the first album from the supergroup power trio whereas in fact it originated as a solo project from guitarist Leslie West. The story goes that after quitting The Vagrants, West headed into the studio with producer Felix Pappalardi and drummer ND Smart II to produce the album that would focus attention on his prowess as a player of note. A change of drummer later and the legend that was hard rock pioneers Mountain was born and West’s Les Paul Junior tone went on to influence a generation. Here, the album has been remastered and contains four bonus tracks and, even after 47 years, the music still delivers on all counts! [DM] Standout track: Blood Of The Sun For fans of: Cream, Jimi Hendrix
