2. Choosing multi-function pedals to maximise versatility

-

2. Multi-function pedals are a great option, especially with some recent additions to the market. In fact, a stackable dual-function OD/Boost (for example, Fulltone Full-Drive, Egnater Goldsmith, etc) can be a very smart first OD pedal purchase, because you can get three sounds in one: side A, side B and A+B. There are many multi-function modulation and delay pedals available. Some people like the programmability/deep edibility of units such as the Eventide H9, Strymon Mobius/ TimeLine, etc, while others like the ‘simple knobs’ approach of TC Flashback X4, Line 6 MM4 and the latest Keeley Workstations.

Stick Keeley’s Tone Workstation (Compressor/Boost/OD) in front of the Super Mod, for example, and you have phenomenal versatility in just two pedals. Better than a digital multi-effects? We think so, because you stick to the modular, easily swappable and upgradeable pedal format.

What you’ll find is that you become interested with certain effect types at different times: delay, fuzz, compression, what have you.And do remember that you don’t have to have them all plugged in, all the time. These are just initial suggestions for you – a jumping off point, if you will. Have fun!
