Joe Bonamassa
Live At Carnegie Hall
Provogue Unplugged in New York New York’s Carnegie Hall is a landmark on a US artist’s journey, some would say a pinnacle of sorts. There’s no doubt Bonamassa has earned it, doing things his way and bringing a nine-piece band along. It’s a canny move. Mandolin, hurdy-gurdy and backing vocalists bring added texture to the likes of Dust Bowl, and there’s a stunning guitar/cello blues-meets-classical duel with Tina Guo in Woke Up Dreaming. It’s a shame we don’t get to hear Joe exposed alone with the guitar, but there’s plenty of his passion to be found here, especially in a soulful reading of Black Country Communion’s Song Of Yesterday.
